Amigos de Isla Contoy is a Mexican, nongovernmental, nonprofit, environmental organization, founded in 1994 in Cancun. Its members are tourism service providers, entrepreneurs, citizens and conservation professionals with a common purpose: “To promote the conservation of Contoy Island and other nature areas of the Yucatan Peninsula through the sustainable development of the local communities”.

VISION

The vision of Amigos de Isla Contoy, A.C. is to be a nongovernmental organization with most impact on biodiversity conservation and the responsible use of natural resources with the implementation of strategies, programs, projects and actions with different groups of society. To promote through environmental education, the values, behaviors, and the lifestyles required in order to achieve a sustainable future.

MISSION

“To promote the conservation of Contoy Island and other nature areas of the Yucatan Peninsula through the sustainable development of the local communities”.

OUR OBJECTIVES

To promote among the population the prevention and control of water, air and soil pollution, environment protection and the preservation and restoration of the ecological equilibrium.

To encourage the preservation of flora and wildlife in Contoy Island National Park as well as in other geographic areas in Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco and others.

To carry out activities of environmental protection, preservation and restoration of ecological equilibrium in Contoy Isand, of the adjacent reef and other protected areas object of interest of this organization.

To promote and encourage and do a variety of activities in a joint or individual manner with any authority, institution, public and private, municipal, state, national and international, with any individual or company interested in the objectives of this organization.

To do, organize, or give courses, seminars, workshops, conferences or carry out research for members of the association and other peoples, relative to the object of this organization.

To promote, organize, carry out, share and inform the community of activities with focus on the protection of natural resources, the environment, and flora and wildlife.

To carry out activities, events, workshops, seminars, conferences and social activities to fund the objectives of this organization.
